Fences
When you look around today, it is amazing to see the many different types of fencing and different uses for fences. Fences are not just for privacy or protection any more. They use fences to add architectural interest and beauty to gardens and properties. Some of the many fence types available on the market today include:
- Picket fence
- Vinyl fence
- Wood fence
- Chain link fence
- Invisible fence
- Electronic dog fence
- Aluminum fence
- Horse fencing
- Electric fence
When selecting a fence, be sure to consider the pricing options, durability of the fencing material, the zone regulations, height of the fence, and the function you require it to do. For example, if you install a dog fence that is too low and your pet jumps over it, this could be a costly mistake. The same applies if you install painted wood fencing but want a fence that requires no maintenance.
Chain link fences are great for keeping your dog in the yard and for keeping uninvited people or other animals out of your yard. Although extremely durable and reasonably priced, they do not offer any privacy and may not always fit into the neighborhood style. They are available in do-it-yourself kits or by purchasing the parts separately at your local lumber or fencing store.
Wood is one of the most used materials for fencing because it offers versatility that other fencing materials cannot match. Because they are vulnerable to rot, insects, and weather, choose a pressure treated or rot resistant wood. Often made of southern yellow pine, pressure treated wood is treated with a preservative to prevent or resist termites and moisture. Red western cedar is ideal rot resistant fencing material because it is a soft textured, lightweight wood with an even, close straight grain. This wood holds enamels, paints, and stains and has exceptional gluing qualities. You often find wood fences in styles such as board on board, single board, and lapboard, which give eighty to one hundred percent privacy.
Vinyl fencing is one of the newer types of fence that you see more of all the time. They require no maintenance, which save you both money and time, never need staining or painting, have no sharp edges, nails, or splinters and are completely safe for people and pets. There are vinyl picket fences, which look exactly like the picket fences from years ago but require no maintenance. There is sure to be a fence material and style to meet everyone’s requirements.
