Deer Fences
Deer are one of the most difficult creatures to keep off your property or out of your gardens. They are excellent jumpers and creatures of habit. One of the ways a deer and dog fence differ is that deer can jump over seven feet high, so a dog fence will not keep deer out. Once deer select a place to feed, rub and walk, they usually keep returning to the same area or trail. Most people love nature scenes, but if they are eating your vegetables, plants, and shrubs, often nature just does not seem as nice. There are several types of deer fencing and deer repellants available today, such as:
- Black polypropylene deer fencing
- Electric deer fence
- Deer fence repellant
- High tensile electric fence for deer
Keeping deer from eating your garden is possible but it takes persistence, ingenuity, and consistent action. If the fence is not high enough, deer could very easily jump over it. For deer, a dog fence is no challenge at all. One of the most popular and effective ways to keep deer out is by using a deer repellent electric fence. If the deer do not touch the electric deer fence, they will continue jumping over it to feast on your plants, as they have no reason to be afraid. Luckily, deer usually nibble and graze while they feed, so chances are, they will touch the fence. If you are thinking of using electric deer fencing around your garden, be sure it is not accessible to young children. Electric, deer garden fencing should not be too powerful and harm the deer, just strong enough to discourage them from coming onto your property to eat. Both Bissonette deer fence and KeepSafe deer and wildlife fence are excellent quality deer fences.
Black polypropylene deer fencing is another alternative that works well for both large and small areas. The black coating on these deer fences makes it look almost invisible from ten or fifteen feet away. These invisible mesh barriers blend into the surroundings, come in various mesh sizes, have a high tensile strength and are normally eight feet high.
Deer repellents are usually either area repellents or contact repellents. Area repellents placed in areas that deer like to feed give off a foul odor, which the deer do not like. The homeowner applies contact repellents directly onto plants giving them a bad taste. For people that do not want to install a deer fence, protection for their plants using deer repellents often works.
