After you buy vinyl soffit, this is a general overview of how to install soffit on vinyl siding. The first step for installing vinyl soffit and fascia is to install the trim pieces. If you are replacing vinyl fascia and soffit, use the wood framing that is already there. Use J-channel along both the soffits short sides and along the house to hold the ends of the soffits. Use a trim accessory called an F-channel if there is no framing along the house. Once completed, slip the soffit pieces into the trim and nail these into the wood sub fascia using trim nails, leaving the end sitting loosely in the J-channel or F-channel. It is sometimes necessary to add additional pieces of wood down the middle for support if the soffit is wider than a foot. This prevents the soffit panels from sagging. After you finish installing the soffit, it is time to install the fascia to complete the job. This protects the wood sub fascia by covering the outside edge of the pieces. There is both vinyl fascia and aluminum fascia available. Either use under sill trim or hide the top edge of the fascia behind a piece of roof edge flashing or the drip edge. Sometimes a little trimming is necessary.
